PED 101 Fundamentals of Physical Activity I (F, Su, 2 cr)

Presents principles underlying the components of physical fitness. Utilizes conditioning activities involving cardiovascular strength and endurance, respiratory efficiency, muscular strength and flexibility. May include fitness assessment, nutrition and weight control information and concepts of wellness.

PED 123 Tennis I (F, Sp, Su, 1 cr)

Teaches tennis skills with emphasis on stroke development and strategies for individual and team play. Includes rules, scoring, terminology and etiquette.

PED 124 Tennis II (F, Sp, Su, 1 cr)

Teaches tennis skills with emphasis on stroke development and strategies for individual and team play. Includes rules, scoring, terminology and etiquette.

Lecture 2 hours.

PED 133 Golf I (F, 1 cr)

Teaches basic skills of golf, rules, etiquette, scoring, terminology, equipment selection and use and strategy.

Lecture 2 hours per week.

PED 135 Bowling I (F, 1 cr)

Teaches basic bowling skills and techniques, scoring, rules, etiquette and terminology.

Lecture 2 hours per week.

PED 136 Bowling II (Sp, 1-2 cr)

Teaches basic bowling skills and techniques, scoring, rules, etiquette and terminology.

Lecture 1-2 hours. Laboratory 0-2 hours. Total 1-3 hours per week.

PED 141 Swimming I (F, 2 cr)

Introduces skills and methods of swimming strokes. Focuses on safety and physical conditioning.

Lecture 2 hours per week.

PED 142 Swimming II (Sp, 2 cr)

Introduces skills and methods of swimming strokes. Focuses on safety and physical conditioning.

Lecture 2 hours per week.

PED 148 Snowboarding (Sp, 1 cr)

Teaches the basic skills of snowboarding, selection and use of equipment, terminology and safety rules.

Laboratory 2 hours per week.

PED 152 Basketball (F, Sp, 1 cr)

Introduces basketball skills, techniques, rules and strategies.

Lecture 1 hour

PED 160 Modern Dance (F, Sp, 2 cr)

Teaches the basic techniques of creative dance. Skills include self-expression, contemporary routines, dance forms and basic choreography.

Lecture 1 hour. Laboratory 2 hours. Total 3 hours per week.

PED 161 Dance Production I (F, Sp, 2 cr)

Focuses on creating a dance performance. Teaches the basic skills in creating and producing a dance. Includes lighting, costumes, music and choreography.

Lecture 1 hour. Laboratory 2 hours. Total 3 hours per week.

PED 163 Jazz I (F, Sp, Su, 2 cr)

Introduces dance through contemporary jazz movements. Includes floor stretches, isolations, dance patterns and locomotor movements. Part I of II.

Lecture 0-1hours. Laboratory 2-4 hours. Total 2-4 hours per week.

PED 166 Ballet (F, 2 cr)

Teaches ballet as a discipline with correct alignment and ballet form. Expresses movement through traditional dance form with choreographic emphasis.

Lecture 3 hours per week.

PED 167 Dance Improvisation (F, 2 cr)

Explores the creation of spontaneous movement experiences with emphasis on self-expression and creature awareness. Includes improvisational techniques utilizing body awareness, use of the environment and group dynamics.

Lecture 1-2 hours. Laboratory 0-2 hours. Total 1-3 hours per week.

PED 171 Ballroom Dance I (F, Sp, Su, 1 cr)

Presents the basic step patterns, rhythmic patterns and positions in ballroom dance. Includes techniques based upon traditional steps with basic choreographic patterns. Part I of II.

Laboratory 2 hours. Total 2 hours per week.

PED 181 Downhill Skiing (Sp, 1 cr)

Teaches basic skills of downhill skiing, selection and use of equipment, terminology and safety rules. Includes field experience.

Lecture 2 hours

PED 195 Sports in Society (F, Sp, 1-99 cr)

Provides an opportunity to explore topical areas of interest to or needed by students. May be used also for special honors courses. May be repeated for credit.
