New Monthly Improv Workshops Begin Sept. 20
Charlottesville, VA - Piedmont Virginia Community College invites the public to participate in Third Fridays Improv, a new series of free monthly workshops on the art of theatrical improvisation. The first one is Friday, Sept. 20, from 6 until 8 p.m., in the Maxwell Theatre (Black Box) in PVCC's V. Earl Dickinson Building.
Using a series of games and exercises for both long- and short-form improv, participants will learn to think fast, improve performance skills and build on the ability to create possibilities. The workshops will also introduce techniques used in playback theatre, an original form of improvisational theatre in which audience members tell stories from their lives and watch them enacted on the spot. The focus will be on ensemble work with the goal of staging a performance in the spring.
The workshops are led by Brad Stoller, PVCC's coordinator of theatre productions. An award-winning playwright, Stoller received a Master of Fine Arts in playwriting from the University of Virginia and has taught drama to youth and adults for more than 20 years.
Additional dates for Third Fridays Improv are Oct. 18, Jan. 17, Feb. 21, March 21 and April 18. Third Fridays Improv is sponsored by Masquers, the PVCC Student Theatre Club. For more information, contact Stoller at 434.961.5246 or email email@example.com.
The V. Earl Dickinson Building is located on the PVCC campus at the south end of College Drive, and ample, free parking is located in front of the building. To view PVCC's full Fine and Performing Arts season, log on to www.pvcc.edu/performingarts.
