Giuseppe Center One-Year Celebration Aug. 20
Charlottesville, VA - Piedmont Virginia Community College is inviting the community to celebrate the one-year anniversary of its PVCC Eugene Giuseppe Center in Greene County. The community is invited to attend an open house to mark the occasion on Tuesday, Aug. 20, which is exactly one year after the center opened to the public. Any community resident is welcome to participate at any time that day from 5 to 7 p.m. The PVCC Giuseppe Center is located at 222 S. Main St. in Stanardsville and provides educational opportunities to residents of Greene and surrounding counties.
Community utilization of the center has been strong, with enrollment exceeding expectations for the first year. More than 50 courses have been offered, with 41 credit courses and 10 noncredit courses provided. Since the center opened, 456 PVCC Giuseppe Center students have taken credit classes. In addition, 218 tests have been proctored and 80 GED sessions held. The Chamber of Commerce, Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission, Greene County Art Guild, Greene County School Board and William Monroe High School are among the community groups utilizing the center this past year.
Consisting of 14,000 square feet, the center features five state-of-the-art classrooms, instructional lab space, a computer classroom, offices and a large community meeting room that can accommodate 250. PVCC staff will be on hand during the open house to give tours of the facility, and attendees can receive assistance applying for admission to the College and registering for fall classes which begin on Monday, Aug. 26.
PVCC President Frank Friedman said the center shows what is possible when caring, community-minded citizens work together for a common cause. "Our community may well have provided an inspiring model in how cooperative leaders from government, business, higher education and the community can achieve greatly for its citizens," he said.
The PVCC Giuseppe Center is located on the second floor of the Greene County branch of the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library in Stanardsville.
