Breaking the Chains Stage Reading Feb. 1

Charlottesville, VA - The Piedmont Virginia Community College Black Student Alliance and Masquers (Drama) Club present a staged reading of Breaking the Chains, Friday, Feb. 1, at 7:30 p.m. in the Main Stage Theatre in the V. Earl Dickinson Building. The event is free and open to the public.

The first act of Breaking the Chains is a fictional piece written by the Rev. Caruso Brown from Mt. Zion First African Baptist Church Drama Ministry in Charlottesville. The second act is a nonfiction piece taken from writings and speeches of various Civil Rights leaders including Ella Baker, Cornel West, Michael Erik Dyson, Septima Clark and Rosa Parks.

The reading will have a 10-minute intermission and be followed by an audience discussion with the cast and directors. The cast includes actors from the drama ministry at Mt. Zion First African Baptist Church and other community actors.

The V. Earl Dickinson Building is located at the south end of College Drive. Ample, free well-lit parking is located in front of the building. For more information contact the PVCC Box Office at 434.961.5376.
