Mathematics Professor Honored for Service to Students, College
Charlottesville, VA - Piedmont Virginia Community College has selected a long-time faculty member to receive honors for service and teaching.
Jon Hexter, associate professor of mathematics, was nominated for the 2013 State Council for Higher Education in Virginia (SCHEV) Outstanding Faculty Award and is the recipient of the 2012 PVCC Distinguished Service Award.
The SCHEV Outstanding Faculty Awards are the Commonwealth's highest honor for faculty at Virginia's public and private colleges and universities. These awards recognize superior accomplishments in teaching, research and public service. As PVCC's SCHEV nominee, Hexter will also serve as the College's honoree for the Virginia Community College Association's Faculty Showcase and PVCC's nominee for the 2012 Chancellor's Award for Teaching Excellence.
Nominated by PVCC faculty, staff and students, Hexter was also selected to receive a Distinguished Service Award for his dedication to the work of the Virginia Community College System Mathematics Redesign Task Force. Hexter served as co-coordinator of the PVCC math department, spearheaded the creation of the PVCC mathematics division Web pages, developed new math curriculum and updated math requirements for each of the degree programs at the College.
