U.Va. President Teresa Sullivan to Deliver PVCC Commencement Address May 11

U.Va. President Teresa SullivanCharlottesville, VA - University of Virginia President Teresa A. Sullivan will deliver the commencement address at Piedmont Virginia Community College's 39th annual commencement exercises May 11.

The ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. at John Paul Jones Arena, located at 295 Massie Road in Charlottesville. The public is invited to attend.

"We are delighted to have President Sullivan address PVCC's class of 2012," said Dr. Frank Friedman, president of PVCC. "Her attendance and remarks will mean a great deal to our graduates, their families and friends."

Sullivan was elected eighth president of the University in August 2010. Before coming to U.Va., she was the provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at the University of Michigan, and has held professional and administrative positions at the University of Texas. In addition, Sullivan has authored or coauthored six books and over 50 scholarly articles.

A graduate of James Madison College at Michigan State University, Sullivan received her doctoral degree in sociology from the University of Chicago.

A 30-minute concert by the Charlottesville Municipal Band precedes the ceremony.
