Originally from Dallas, LaTrina served eight years in the U.S. Army and was stationed in North Carolina, Korea and Italy during her tours. She was inspired to pursue a career in math after taking a class with Assistant Professor of Mathematics Diane Valade. "She makes math understandable and interesting," said LaTrina. "She's patient when students don't catch on right away. Sometimes adult learners need a little more time, and it really takes a true professional to understand that." MORE »
Returning to School After 30 Years
As a father of two teenage boys with a full-time marketing job, Ken Allen of Palmyra already had a full schedule when his wife suggested a few years ago that he return to college. She thought it would be a good idea for him to explore a new profession. Although he agreed, it had been 30 years since he had attended Austin Peay State University (APSU) in Tennessee. His focus at APSU, he recalled, was definitely not on academics. Eventually, he dropped out, entered the military, got married, had a family and never found his way back to college until the fall of 2011 when he enrolled in PVCC's General Studies associate degree transfer program.
