Dual Enrollment


  1. Check for available classes and verify your eligibility.
  2. Discuss with a parent or guardian and high school counselor your dual enrollment plan and whether you are a good candidate.
  3. Submit an application to PVCC. After completing your application to PVCC, you will receive a student ID number and username on your confirmation page. Please be sure to print this page or write down this information.

  1. Take the PVCC placement test. All students must complete the Virginia Placement Test (VPT) English test, unless they meet the minimum SAT, PSAT or ACT requirements. Students wishing to take a dual enrollment class that has a math prerequisite must also take the VPT Math test or meet SAT or ACT requirements. The tests are offered at your high school or the PVCC Learning Center. There is no charge. You can prepare for the test with sample test questions by visiting the VPT Web site. Contact your PVCC Career Coach or career specialist to schedule your placement test.
  2. Exemptions for the test include:

    • Successful completion of college math classes or ENG 111 within the last three years.
    • English and math AP test scores of three or higher.

  3. Complete and submit the PVCC Dual Enrollment Request Form to your guidance counselor and be sure to have all required signatures. You may also obtain this form from your Career Coach or guidance office.
  4. Once the class has begun, log on to My PVCC and click on VCCS SIS: Student Information System in the Self Service panel. Click on Student Center and then on My Class Schedule to confirm enrollment in the class.

  6. Complete the PVCC Dual Enrollment Request Form. Obtain all appropriate signatures needed (including parent or legal guardian and high school principal or counselor).
  7. Meet with PVCC's Counselor for First Year Programs to review your placement test scores, transcripts and program of study. If you will be attending PVCC full time, bring a copy of your official high school transcript. To make an appointment, email the Counselor for First Year Programs or call 434.961.5263.

    (Note: If you take dual credit classes, you must meet with the Counselor for First Year Programs before registering each semester. Be sure to make your appointment well in advance of registration start dates. View registration start dates on the Academic Calendar.)

  8. Pay tuition and fees through MyPVCC or at the cashier's office at PVCC.
  9. If necessary, acquire textbooks. Textbooks are available for purchase or rental from the PVCC Bookstore or online. The PVCC Bookstore is located in the Main Building.
