We encourage all degree- and certificate-seeking students to apply for financial aid. Financial aid may come in the form of grants, scholarships, loans and work-study positions. The first step is to complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) online. (Use a PC or laptop to complete the FAFSA.) To obtain your maximum eligibility, it is best to complete the FAFSA prior to March 31 of the year you plan to attend PVCC, but you may apply after this date.

Our mission is to help you meet your educational goals. The enrollment process at PVCC involves a series of steps and decisions that are necessary to ensure your success as a student. This is only necessary if you want to receive transfer credit for previously completed college coursework obtained outside the Virginia Community College System. Only students applying or entering allied health programs (i.e., nursing, surgical technology, emergency medical services, sonography or radiography) need to send high school transcripts.

In order to have your previous college credits evaluated for transfer to PVCC, please send your official academic transcripts from the previous colleges and the completed Transcript Evaluation Request Form to the mailing address below. If you attended another Virginia community college and want to receive transfer credit at PVCC, the completed Transcript Evaluation Request Form is still required, but we do not need an official transcript.

PVCC Testing Center

Students planning to apply for financial aid or pursue a degree or certificate at PVCC requiring math or English courses must take placement tests. These tests are administered in the Testing Center at PVCC. See hours of operation. There is no fee to take the placement tests. You can prepare for these tests by reviewing placement test information.

Possible exemptions from taking some or all of the placement tests include:

• SAT scores (within two years) of at least 520 in math and/or 520 in English
• Certain ACT scores (consult with Admissions & Advising Center)
• Successful completion of certain college-level math and/or English courses
• AP test scores of 3 or higher in English and/or math

Advisors in the Admissions & Advising Center will evaluate placement test results and help you choose appropriate classes. Stop by the Admissions & Advising Center for walk-in advising assistance, or call 434.961.6551 to schedule an appointment with an advisor.
